Minor Victorian Writers
It would be difficult to overstate the impact this resource has had on the study of Victorian labouring-class writing over the last decade or so. Ian Petticrew, through painstaking work assembling and collating text, has created a database of great breadth and depth. Several of the writers featured in the Poetry of the Cotton Famine Poetry database (including Edwin Waugh, William Billington, J. C. Prince and others) are featured, with extensive examples of their writing, and biographical material.
Piston, Pen and Press
Piston, Pen and Press is huge AHRC-funded project undertaking recovery of industrial poetry and song from a wide historical range. It is run by Professor Kirstie Blair of the University of Strathclyde, Dr Mike Sanders of the University of Manchester, and Dr Oliver Betts of the National Railway Museum. Piston, Pen and Press began a year after the Cotton Famine Poetry project in 2018, and will run for three years, culminating in a vital database resource of industrial cultural history.
