Jennifer Reid

Jennifer Reid is a living legend in the Manchester and Lancashire region: a balladress bringing Victorian northern history and culture alive for thousands of people. She has been involved in the Lancashire Cotton Famine Poetry project from the very beginning, performing at a planning workshop at Manchester’s Chetham’s Library in April 2016, and at the very first official Cotton Famine Poetry event in Dorset (of all places!) in November 2016. She has performed at many events run by the project since then. This image was taken of Jennifer in full flow entertaining schoolchildren during an event at Helmshore Mill with Faustus and Project lead Simon Rennie in 2019. She also features in the Quarry Bank Mill video. Look out for Jennifer’s fantastic readings of several of the Cotton Famine poems on the database.
